Michael Crichton: 1942-2008
It was an absolute shock to hear the very sad news today that award-winning author Michael Crichton has passed away at the age of 66. His family said that he had been fighting a "courageous and private battle against cancer", adding, "He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched, but he
leaves behind the greatest gifts of a thirst for knowledge, the desire
to understand, and the wisdom to use our minds to better our world."
Inspired by his experience as a doctor and science background, his internationally bestselling high-concept thrillers often served as cautionary tales of the perils of technology. He's most famous for Jurassic Park, but his career as a writer also crossed over to television as the creator and producer of the long-running series ER. Many of his novels were adapted for the big screen, including The Andromeda Strain, Rising Sun, Jurassic Park, Disclosure, and Congo.

Wonderful author. Brilliant man; doctor, director, writer, screenwriter, video game developer (anyone remember Amazon for the commodore 64?)We should all live a full, prosperous life.
God bless Mr. Crichton and his family. I truly loved the man's work and will continue to read and re-read his excellent novels.
RIP.

He was the best author I have ever realized. His sheer depth of knowledge had a different taste as they were molded with unique ideas that could only occur to him. I have been reading his books since 2001. His books mad eoyu feel he was talking to you through them. His loss is like losing a close firend. He will be missed sorely and heart rendingly.

A great mind, wasted as an author, but said he didn't like the demanding life of a doctor. As Charlie Rose said to him "You are one of the most interesting people I know!". A renaissance man, in many ways, no subject was above his interest. He also bravely took on the Global Warming community and took unbelievable flak for it. However at no time did he resort to the ad hominem attacks that they did, and kept strictly to the disinterested scientific facts. In fact State of Fear exposed many to the hype of GW, and reminded us all to never blindly "listen to the experts" as so many do, but instead go and do the research yourself, and if you don't know how to, find out, as he did- quite often the "experts" haven't a clue.
All his books were excellently researched, and he had an enthusiasm and dedication which was inspirational.

I am so very sorry to hear about Dr. Crichton's death. It sure is a great loss both for his family and for all that loved to read his work and that were anxiously expecting the next book. I have read all his books and he is my favorite American author.RIP
