End-o'-the-Week Kid-Lit Roundup

Some quick links from around the kid-lit blogosphere:

Eric Carle shows us how it's done. Check out this video interview with the author and artist at work in his studio, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Very Hungry Caterpillar--and explaining how the book narrowly avoided being called "A Week with Willi Worm." (via 100 Scope Notes)

Nikki McClure reveals her secrets, too. In addition to an interview, we also get to see some cool rough sketches from her new book All in a Day. (via Fuse #8)

All-in-a-day-2-11

The February issue of Notes from the Horn Book is out. Includes good recommendations around Presidents' Day, Valentine's Day, and African American heroes.

A talk with Ed Young. Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast posted an interesting interview (and great accompanying pics) with the Caldecott medalist behind books like Wabi Sabi and Lonpopo. And I loved--at last!--the meta discussion of the blog's name. (via Cynsations)

Gertrude is Gertrude is Gertrude is Gertrude. Chasing Ray really likes this new picture book, but only after overcoming much dubiousness. ("A picture book on Gertrude Stein seemed to be so utterly and completely an adult's idea of what a child should be reading--and thus a pretty much dumb idea--that I partly wanted to read and review it just so I could say how wrong it was.")

The 2008-2009 Cybils. The winners have been announced! Check 'em out. These blogger literary awards definitely succeed in identifying the organic chicken nuggets of the kid-lit world. --Paul
