Omni Daily Crush: "Pops"

Not sure if it's the smirking cover photo or author credentials, but it's been a long time since I've been this excited about a book I haven't read.  Pops, Terry Teachout's upcoming biography of the great Louis Armstrong, has got me clearing space and making time for some quality reading this weekend.  (Mark your calendars, Armstrong aficionados: Pops is due out this December)

I've been a fan of Louis for years (high school friends often stared quizzically at my Armstrong-heavy CD stacks) and can be hostile towards anyone who profiles one of my heroes.  However, Teachout’s impressive background (jazz musician-turned-Wall Street Journal critic) and diligent blogging has helped ease my concerns.  “No scores are settled in Pops,” he posted back in May. “This book is about him, not me."

It’s been love at first sight, but here’s to a continuation of this infatuation through the final page.  Do ol' Satch proud, Mr. Teachout.
