End-o'-the-Week Kid-Lit Roundup
More casting for the Moomins movie. Moomins and the Comet Chase is the new 3D movie based on the legendary Nordic kid-lit books and comic. It's set to premiere at Cannes next month, and they just signed on Max von Sydow as the storyteller. Check out the movie site for more info.
Iron Man 2 movie tie-ins. Speaking of movies: We're about to be surrounded by all things Iron Man (the sequel premieres May 7th), and School Library Journal has put together a good round-up of all the Iron Man 2 kids' books, including Iron Man 2: The Junior Novel, for readers grades 3 to 7.
Eisner nomination for Lunch Lady! The 2010 Will Eisner Comic Industry Award nominations came out recently, including nominees for "Best Publication for Kids." The whole field is impressive, and it includes one of our favorites, Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute.
Alien-filled graphic novels. Check out the latest installment in "Remarkable Reads," a handful of sci-fi-themed graphic novels specifically for middle school readers.
"Parents 'must let children choose what they read.'" That's the news from a report to be published next month, according to a story in the Guardian. The findings say "despite the best intentions, it is well-meaning mothers and fathers who often stop their sons and daughters from picking up the reading habit. 'Parents have too much of a role in deciding which books their child is going to read," said Norris. 'It is turning children off. They should let them choose.'" (via Achockablog)
Kids' comics crash C2E2. Publishers Weekly has the story on kids' comics popping up at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo--including Brobee, seen here promoting new Yo Gabba Gabba comics from Oni Press:
"Send Me Your Spines." We're reaching the end of 100 Scope Notes' book-spine poetry competition/exhibition, and it's not too late for students to send in an entry. Make sure you check out the entries so far, e.g.;
"What book inspired you to become an author?" Don't miss all the kids' books mentioned in these teen-author interview snippets (which also include "What book did you wish you had written?"):
