Clean Room by Gail Simone
I read a lot of graphic novels these days, but this one I loved beyond all others. The story starts fast and clean and clear. It's clever, amazingly well-executed, and delightfully original. It has everything I want in a story, and nothing that irritates me. That's so, so rare. Fair warning: Sex and Violence in here.

Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder
I read this book out loud to my two little boys. Until I had kids, I didn't know that Little House on the Praire was based on real events. Or that Laura Ingalls Wilder's stories started here in Wisconsin. Aside from that though, I have to say that these books are more dramatic and engaging than half the fantasy novels I read. They should be called, "The Adventures of Pa Ingalls: Pioneer Badass."

Underneath by Peter S Beagle (not yet available)
I was lucky enough to get an advance reading copy of this book a month ago, and reading it reminded me why Peter S Beagle is one of my favorite authors. His prose is so lovely and easy to read. He's one of the first books I recommend to anyone.
