To Ink Is Human: Adriana Anders’s Favorite Tattooed Heroes and Heroines

Tattoo romances - Amazon Book Review

Under Her SkinAdriana Anders has thought a lot about tattoos. One look at the covers of her new Blank Canvas series will make you yearn for your own…or a tattooed significant other to call your own.

Here Anders puts the spotlight on six inked-up books or series that are just as exciting on the inside as they are on the outside. And at the end of her suggestions, let us know how you feel about tattooed heroines and heroes. Adrian

What is it about tattoos that makes a person look more naked? You’d think that the ink would mask a body, like clothing. Instead, when a man pulls off his shirt, baring words or an image, it seems intimate, as if we’ve been given a look at more than just his skin. Not that I’ll complain—I’ve bought books based on the cover alone.

These six sexy book covers give that extra little bit of inky insight into some scorching hot characters:

The Game PlanThe Game Plan by Kristen Callihan gives us tattooed, bearded goodness. It’s a friends-to-lovers romance featuring Dex, who is my kind of hero—a muscular, man-bunned brute on the outside, but on the inside, he’s a softie, a baby-whisperer, and a football playing virgin, to boot.

Willing VictimThe cover of Willing Victim by Cara McKenna is as dark and steamy as the book itself. If you’ve never read erotic romance but you’re curious, this book will dump you right into the deep end. But while McKenna deals with some very dark kinks, every step is consensual—and that consent is as sexy as it gets.

Edge of ObsessionIn Megan Crane’s Edge series, dauntless, inked-up, dystopian Viking raiders take us on a wild, wicked ride. This series is worth reading for the world-building alone, but it also offers up mad adventures—both erotic and high-seas—and a future in which men and women are equals.

BeyondIn a similar vein, Kit Rocha’s Beyond series is full of enticing body art and smoldering heroes. Picture Motorcycle Club hotties riding through a dark, dystopian future. The genius of these books is that the sexy times are utterly devoid of shame.

Full ExposureThe tattoo gracing the cover of Amy Jo Cousins’s Full Exposure is out in the open, though in the book, it’s usually hidden behind the hero’s serious façade. I love this type of romance—the alpha nerd saving the self-destructive rock star. The fact that they’re both hot men doesn’t hurt, not to mention their crazy sweet dom/sub relationship.

Beautiful CrazyThe cover of Beautiful Crazy by Kasey Lane is exquisite—and I love that the heroine is the one sporting the tats. This fun, super-steamy, opposites attract story pits a business savvy rockabilly pin-up against a sexy alpha male in a suit. Needless to say, sparks fly.

Have I left you with a hankering for more inked-up muscles? Check out the bevy of tattoos, beards, and general manspiration over in my Pinterest harem.

What about you? Do you prefer heroes or heroines to be tattooed or not?
