Prime (Day) Kitchen Gadgets--and the cookbooks to go with them

BrevilleMixer150W There are two sales for which I get up early and have a tendency to power shop, and one of them is Amazon's Prime Day.  Prime Day is a favorite because there's so much variety and really good deals--last year I bought a portable camp grill, an Echo, and a table (among various other things).  This year, Prime Day deals include two kitchen gadgets I adore above all others: an Instant Pot* and a Breville stand mixer**.

Whether you already have one of these handy gadgets or want to make the most of a new one, below are three cookbooks for each appliance that I think will keep you wiping off spills, not dust.

*Instant Pot deal is good until Tuesday, July 11, 2017 11:59 p.m. PST or while supplies last.

**Breville Stand Mixer deal runs Tuesday, July 11, 2017, from 2:20 p.m. - 8:20 p.m. PST or while supplies last.

InstantPot200_PrimeDayDealFirst - the Instant Pot.  There have been several cookbooks published since the Instant Pot phenomenon began but I feel like the home cook's discovery of this weeknight meal miracle maker is just hitting its stride.  I love my Instant Pot so I recently got one for a friend who's a busy working mom--she's been using hers almost daily (it's the same one that's on Prime Day deals) and now wants some cookbooks to increase her Instant Pot repertoire.  Here are three that I really like:

BrevilleMixer200Ah, the beloved stand mixer--it just makes so many things easier... Whipping cream. Making meringue. Cookie dough. I know cookies are generally pretty simple but when you don't have to stand there holding the electric hand mixer, elbow in the air, circling the bowl trying not to splatter anything for minutes at a time, it's a game changer... Here are three cookbooks that showcase some of the best things to bake.

Dorie's Cookies by Dorie Greenspan

This year's James Beard award winner for Best Baking and Dessert Book, this is my go-to cookbook for making cookies since it released last fall.  Try the Sunny-Side-Up Meringues for an incredibly delicious cookie of lemon curd and meringue that is as much fun to look at as it is to eat.

How to Bake by Paul Hollywood

We're a little obsessed with The Great British Baking Show at my house and Paul Hollywood is one of the judges the contestants most fear and adore.  A handshake from Paul is the ultimate show of approval because he is one picky baker. If you're going to learn how to bake, Hollywood's your guy.
