Diaries and Misadventures: Talking to Rachel Renée Russell

MaxDork200Last year, Rachel Renée Russell introduced a new middle-grade series, The Misadventures of Max Crumbly, and her many young fans ate it up.  The laughs continue in Middle School Mayhem*, and for readers of Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Timmy Failure, Max Crumbly is a welcome new character to follow.

Adding a new series hasn't slowed Russell down; in the fall, the 12th Dork Diaries book releases. The title was just announced and the cover is really fun: Dork Diaries 12:Tales from a Not-So-Secret Crush Catastrophe. It's going to be quite a summer for Nikki.

I've been following Russell's books--and been hounded for them by my daughter--for years, but had never met her in person until recently.  She's one of the most delightful authors I've had the chance to talk to and, it was fun to learn how Max Crumbly came to be and what's in store for Nikki in the new book. And as you'll hear for yourself in the short video interview below, Russell has one of those voices that I could listen to all day long....

* The Misadventures of Max Crumbly 1: Locker Hero and The Misadventures of Max Crumbly 2: Middle School Mayhem have both been picks for the Best Children's Books of the Month.
