Announcing the National Book Award Finalists

Today the National Book Foundation announced its shortlists for the National Book Awards in Fiction, Nonfiction, Young People's Literature, and Poetry. First given in 1950, previous winners of the National Book Award include Flannery O'Connor, William Faulkner, Ralph Ellison, Alice Walker, Annie Proulx, and Charles Johnson. The winners will be announced at the Foundation's annual gala in November.
