Book Art

Bk1Brian-Dettmer-2Although the Amazon editors read both physical books and Kindle books, and a few of us really enjoy audio books, our love for reading first blossomed with the actual physical book. So it's with a little ambivalence that I personally find myself checking out book art on occasion.

Every time I see a fine example of book art, I ask the same two questions.

Sheesh. Who would think to do something like that to a book ?

and

Holy cow. Who would think to do something like that to a book ?

See, ambivalence. Here are a few fine examples of book art for you to enjoy.

Bk2-400Glover-Salad

In the books as food category, I give you this book salad, which I found on the website of Boston College's McMullen School of Art.

Bk400knit07

Who would think to knit a book? Aimee Lee has an entire site devoted to knitted books.

Bk400Book-art-by-Guy-Laramee

One of my all-time favorites is Guy Laramee. You can see more of his work here.

Bk1-400Brian-Dettmer-2

If Guy Laramee gives his book art a geological spin, Brian Dettmer has a more architectural approach. Here he is doing a TED talk about his work.

Bk400robert-the

I appreciate the simplicity of this one. I found it here.

Bk400jonathan_callan

You'll find a lot of good examples of book art on this site, but this piece by Jonathan Callan stood out to me.

Bk400HandmadeBooks_Lois Morrison

Did you know there is a Center for Book Arts?
